Brewing Green Tea
Green tea is one of the healthiest drinks you can enjoy. It’s packed with antioxidants, boosts your energy, and helps you stay healthy. Brewing green tea might seem tricky at first, but it’s actually easy once you know the right steps. In this article, we’ll show you how to brew green tea the right way!
What You Need to Brew Green Tea
Before you start brewing, gather everything you’ll need:
A teapot or mug
Green tea leaves or tea bags
Fresh, clean water
A kettle or pot to boil water
A timer (or watch)
Now that you have your supplies, let’s get started!
Step 1: Boil the Water
Start by boiling some water. But here’s a little secret: Green tea is delicate and can taste bitter if the water is too hot. Unlike black tea, which needs boiling water (212°F or 100°C), green tea is best brewed with water that’s not too hot—around 170°F to 180°F (76°C to 82°C).
If you don’t have a thermometer, just bring the water to a boil, then let it sit for a minute or two to cool down a bit.
Step 2: Measure Your Tea
If you’re using Green Witch's Brew green tea (Green Paradise, Guan Yin's Blessing, or Jade Beginnings), measure out about one tablespoon of leaves for every cup (8 ounces) of water. If you’re using tea bags, just use one bag per cup. You can always adjust this if you want your tea stronger or lighter, but one tablespoon of leaves per cup is a good starting point.
Step 3: Steep the Tea
Once your water is at the right temperature, pour it over your tea leaves or tea bag. Let the tea steep for about 4 minutes. If you steep it for too long, the tea might taste bitter, so watching the time is important.
If you like milder green tea, you can steep it for less time. If you prefer a stronger flavor, let it steep a little longer—but no more than 4 minutes.
Step 4: Remove the Tea Bag or Leaves
After the tea has steeped for the right time, remove the tea bag or strain the loose leaves. This stops the tea from steeping any longer and getting too bitter.
Step 5: Enjoy Your Green Tea!
Your green tea is ready to drink! You can enjoy it plain, or add a little lemon honey for extra flavor. Green tea is delicious on its own, but these small additions can make it taste even better.
